URL QR Code Generator

The most common QR code there is — and the one most often printed with a vendor sitting in the middle of it.

This generator encodes your link directly into the QR code, so scanning it opens your URL with nothing in between. There is no redirect, no account and no expiry — but it also means the destination cannot be changed after printing, so the URL needs to be one you are confident about.

Smart export

SVG for crisp marketing assets

URL codes are often reused across posters, sites, and docs. SVG scales cleanly without blur.

Best flexibility

Leave empty for qrcode-YYYY-MM-DD

PNG is best for social media and print. SVG is scalable and perfect for web use.

Background image (Optional)

For best scan reliability, error correction is bumped to High when an image is set. Use a light image with a dark foreground (or vice-versa) for strong contrast.

Logo (Optional)
Built-in icons

Tinted with your foreground color. Pair with high error correction (Q or H).

Use higher error correction (Q or H) when adding a logo to ensure scannability.

§ 01What it encodes

What a URL QR code actually contains

The encoded payload
https://example.com/menu
FieldMeaningNotes
schemehttps://Included so every scanner opens it as a link rather than a search. Most phones cope without it; not all do.
hostexample.comYour own domain. If you use a vendor short link here, that vendor sees every scan.
path/menuShorter is better: every character adds grid density and shrinks the modules.

There is no wrapper and no format — a URL code contains exactly the characters of your link, which is why what you encode directly controls how small you can print it.

§ 02How to make one
  1. Step 01

    Paste the link

Use the shortest form that works — drop tracking parameters if you can move them to a redirect you control.

  2. Step 02

    Check the preview decodes

The live scan test confirms the code contains your URL and not something truncated.

  3. Step 03

    Style it

Colours, a logo and finder-eye styling, with a contrast check running as you go.

  4. Step 04

    Export

SVG or PDF for print, PNG for screens and slides.

§ 03In practice

Where people use it

  • Restaurant menus and table tents
  • Product packaging and labels
  • Posters, flyers and window displays
  • Business cards and leaflets
  • Slide decks and conference signage

What breaks it

Encoding a long tracking URL
A 25-character link is a 25 × 25 grid; the same link with a full campaign tail can reach 49 × 49, halving the module size at the same printed dimensions. Move UTM parameters to a redirect on your own domain.
Pointing at a URL that will move
A static code cannot be edited after printing. If the destination genuinely will change during the print run, either use a redirect you control or accept that you will reprint.
Using a vendor short link to save space
It does shrink the code, but it also puts a third party in the scan path who then sees every scanner’s IP, device and approximate location — and who can take the link down.
§ 04Questions
Does the generator add https:// for me?
It encodes what you enter, and the input hint asks for the full URL including the scheme. Including https:// is safest: most phones will open a bare domain as a link, but some older scanners treat it as a search term instead.
Can I change where the code points after printing?
Not in the code itself — it contains your link directly, with no redirect to re-point. The usual workaround is to encode a short URL on your own domain and change the redirect server-side, which keeps the editability without handing a vendor your scan data.
Is there a length limit on the URL?
Practically, yes. There is no hard cap you will hit, but every character adds rows to the grid and shrinks each module at a given print size. Beyond roughly 150 characters you will need to print noticeably larger.
Can I generate hundreds of URL codes at once?
Yes — the bulk generator takes a list or a CSV and returns every code as a single ZIP, with the same styling applied across the batch.

Static vs dynamic QR codes: what each can and can’t do

One encodes your content. The other encodes a link to somebody else’s server. That single difference explains every other trade-off.
